The caravan sector welcomed the reduction of the excise duty tax applied to motor caravans from 220 percent to 45 percent. An entrepreneur who produces and rents caravans say that the drop in special consumption tax will significantly contribute to the Turkish domestic caravan sector.
He said that “Before the pandemic, the total number of companies engaged in motorhomes or towing caravans in Turkey, that is, interested in caravan construction, would not exceed twenty. In 2021, the number of companies engaged in the production of caravans has increased to 600.”
Stating that with the increase of caravan production, new camping areas will be opened, and tourism routes will be formed. “We have a lot of historical and natural beauties that can be visited by caravan in Turkey. Tourists will see these beauties of our country thanks to caravan tours, while tourism will be revived in these regions. Thus, every region of our country will begin to develop thanks to foreign exchange revenues.” he added.
He added that the industry currently employs over 2 thousand people. He believes this number will increase to 20 thousand after the tax cut. Emphasizing that the labor costs of manufacturing caravans in Turkey are very affordable compared to Europe, he goes on to say;
