Blue Ridge/Toccoa River KOA Holiday Wins 2025 KOA Rising Star Award

Blue Ridge/Toccoa River KOA Holiday in northern Georgia, operated by John, Beth, and Ali Kieffer, has been named Kampgrounds of America (KOA)’s 2025 Rising Star. The accolade, recognizing exceptional performance among campgrounds new to the KOA system, was announced on November 20 during KOA’s annual Convention and Expo in San Antonio, Texas.

John and Beth Kieffer, along with their daughter Ali, fulfilled a long-held dream of running a hospitality business by transforming an 18-acre property near Blue Ridge, Georgia, into a thriving campground.

Beginning development in 2018, they overcame challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic to open the 94-site KOA Holiday on Labor Day weekend in 2020.

The Kieffers’ journey began with a passion for camping and a desire to create a space for others to enjoy the outdoors. Leveraging John’s background as a general contractor, the family designed the campground from the ground up, emphasizing both functionality and aesthetics. Their commitment to their vision was evident as they worked through the complexities of landscape design, outdoor maintenance, and operational logistics.

Ali reflected on the family’s philosophy, stating, “We’re not just running a business; we’re building a community.”

The Rising Star Award recognizes exceptional new members of the KOA system, and the Blue Ridge/Toccoa River KOA Holiday exemplifies the qualities celebrated by this honor. According to Toby O’Rourke, KOA’s president and CEO, the Kieffers’ rapid success is a testament to their hard work and passion for outdoor hospitality

Innovation has been a cornerstone of the campground’s growth, with the Kieffers continually enhancing the property based on guest feedback and industry trends. In 2023, they added a multi-purpose lodge, RV and boat storage, and new recreational areas.

Upgrades in 2024 included the addition of Deluxe riverside sites, a Paw Pen KOA Patio Site, and an upgraded KampK9 dog park. The Kieffers also relocated and expanded key amenities to better meet guest needs.

Looking ahead, the Kieffers plan to convert basic sites to Deluxe pull-through options and expand pet-friendly spaces in 2025.

John emphasized the multifaceted nature of campground management, noting the importance of adaptability, financial expertise, and operational knowledge. “You have to be very open-minded and knowledgeable about money, staffing, and plant management,” he said.
